Finished the project tonight. Not too bad for a first attempt I feel. I know exactly where I went wrong, so next time I will know the pit-falls to avoid.
As I mentioned before it is made from soft pine, which is really difficult to get a decent finish on. I think it finished up OK given the wood type, and the fact I was making it up as I go along.

A wood-turned Gumball Machine.
I need to get some gum balls to fill it up & try it out. It works with jelly beans, but they stick a bit because of the funny shape.
